The first prototyped version of the V5 LED ring just recently arrived hot off the stereolithography machine! Since most of the parts are made of plastic, getting them made without injection molds is a bit tricky. For that reason we went with some rapid prototyping houses, and got the design back in a week! We’re determined to achieve product launch by March ‘12 (earlier would be coo too, right?). Here’s a bit more about where we’re going with the design…

Mechanical improvements prototyped in the new V5 include:

  • Clips capable of fitting any spoke pattern & width of your 700c rims
  • Clips that are easily installed (i.e. each clip will only requires a single screw to lock into place)
  • A lighter & more sturdy product than V4
  • Rings that snap into place and won’t move

As soon as we can we’ll get some photos off to y’all. In addition to these prototyped improvements, we still have plans to incorporate the following (as previously stated in Update #4):

  • Changing the stationary illumination pattern
  • Inclusion of an accelerometer
  • Rim mounted on/off switch

It is important to note that these are not ALL of the changes we plan on implementing prior to production. We just wanted to give you an update on the design progress we’ve made thus far. We’re taking our deadlines seriously, and will be sure to keep all you informed. Thanks again for the support!
